That variation is down to a reactive glaze that behaves differently with every firing, so no two cups in a batch settle into quite the same mottled pattern. Vitrified porcelain gives the cup its structure, safe for the microwave and sturdy enough to work through a busy café shift without wearing down. Pad printed branding is the exception, needing hand washing rather than a dishwasher cycle to stop the artwork fading over time.
