Promotional T-Shirts
Promotional t-shirts remain one of the most widely used forms of branded apparel because they suit everything from corporate events and product launches through to sporting clubs, charities and staff uniforms. The category includes Cotton T-Shirts, Cool Dry T-Shirts, bespoke designs, singlets and hi vis garments for a variety of environments. Different fabrics, weights and constructions exist because a t-shirt worn for a fun run, outdoor event or worksite may have very different requirements from one used for retail staff, volunteers or promotional giveaways. Comfort, durability and decoration suitability all influence how a t-shirt performs after repeated wear and washing.
T-shirts are commonly used by businesses, sporting clubs, schools, community organisations and event organisers. They are distributed at trade shows, charity events, festivals, corporate functions and staff programs where a garment may be worn by a large group of people at the same time. Their broad appeal and practical nature continue to make t-shirts one of the most frequently ordered categories in promotional clothing.

Why Fabric Weight Matters
T-shirts that look similar in photographs can feel completely different when worn. One of the main reasons is fabric weight, which is commonly measured in grams per square metre (GSM). Lightweight t-shirts are often chosen for warm weather, fun runs and large-scale promotional events where comfort and breathability are priorities. Heavier fabrics generally provide a more substantial feel and are often selected for staff uniforms, retail environments and garments expected to withstand frequent washing.
Fabric weight can also influence how the garment presents after repeated use. Heavier cotton t-shirts often hold their shape better and may provide a more structured appearance, while lighter garments can feel cooler during physical activity. Fabric weight should not be viewed in isolation, however. Fibre composition, stitching quality and garment construction all contribute to durability, comfort and long-term performance. This is why two t-shirts with a similar appearance can perform very differently over their lifespan.
Most Cool Dry t-shirts are made from polyester performance fabric. Unlike cotton, polyester fibres absorb very little moisture, allowing perspiration to move away from the skin and evaporate more quickly. This is why Cool Dry garments are commonly used for sport, outdoor work and active events.
Polyester t-shirts and polyester-rich blends generally shrink less than 100% cotton t-shirts. Cotton fibres can contract when exposed to heat during washing and drying, while polyester is more resistant to shrinkage and tends to retain its original shape.
GSM stands for grams per square metre and measures fabric weight. A lightweight 130gsm t-shirt will usually feel cooler and lighter to wear than a 220gsm t-shirt. Higher GSM fabrics often feel more substantial and may provide greater durability, although fibre quality and garment construction are also important.
In most cases, yes. Embroidery is stitched directly into the garment and can often outlast the t-shirt itself. Printed designs can also be highly durable when applied correctly, but embroidery is generally regarded as the longest-lasting decoration method for apparel.
Cool Dry t-shirts are often preferred in hot conditions because they dry quickly and help move moisture away from the body. Lightweight cotton t-shirts can also be comfortable, but they tend to retain more moisture once perspiration builds up.
David from our sales team says: Two t-shirts can look almost identical online while using very different fabric weights. Before comparing prices, check the GSM. A heavier fabric often costs more but may provide better durability, opacity and shape retention after repeated washing.
T-Shirts For Different Environments
T-shirts remain one of the most adaptable categories in promotional apparel because different fabrics and constructions suit different environments. Cotton t-shirts continue to be popular for casual wear and promotional campaigns, while Cool Dry t-shirts are widely used for sport, outdoor events and active workplaces. Factors such as GSM, fabric composition and decoration method can significantly influence how a garment performs after repeated wear and washing. Embroidery and printing each offer different advantages depending on the logo and intended use. Understanding these differences helps ensure the garment remains comfortable, presentable and suitable for its purpose. If you need help comparing the available options, our team can assist.
